3 tools to help remote (or any) workers get work done
Are you a remote or hybrid worker who struggles to focus? Get work done? Have time in the day to make progress on your tasks? If this is you, you might need a few new tools in your toolkit. (Or to re-engage with tools you already have!) Here are three of my favorite tools I use as a remote worker.
1. Trello
Trello is a tool to visualize your work, either for a specific project or your individual tasks. Benefits of Trello include:
Using cards and checklists to have a clear picture of the work you need to do.
Sort cards by due date so you can focus on what’s overdue or due soon.
Get a rush of dopamine when you check off an item on a checklist or complete a whole card
Level up by using Trello for a project with your team. You can see improvements in:
shared understanding of a project's status
regular progress towards completion of tasks
team communication around tasks
your own understanding of your role in the work and what you need to focus on
The free version of Trello is powerful and you can get started right away. (This is not a paid ad (though feel free to reach out Trello!!) We just really love Trello.)
2. Calendar
Yes, your calendar is for scheduling meetings, but have you used it to block out time for yourself? If you feel stuck in a cycle of meetings, blocking time for productivity can be a powerful tool for gaining focus time. Consider scheduling 30 minutes on your calendar to stop looking at everything else and get a task done.
3. Pomodoro Timer
If you are struggling to focus try using the Pomodoro method. Set a timer for 25 minutes. Use the 25 minutes to focus on your task and then take a 5 minute break. Rinse and repeat! To power this up even more, partner up with a friend to do a pomodoro together.
PomoFocus is non distracting and easy to use.
Tomato Timers is quite cute!
Or use the timer on your computer or phone
