Collaboration isn’t dead: key behaviors of successful managers in hybrid and remote workplaces
In 2020 as many workplaces transitioned to remote work, we observed managers who struggled, and a few standouts who adapted well. What stood out about those managers who quickly adapted to remote work? It wasn’t their initial attitudes - many of them started out reminiscing about the office. These managers understood remote work requires different behaviors than in-person.
Back in 2019, connecting with folks at work required a lot less intention. You could count on seeing coworkers and leadership at the water cooler or in the elevator. Collaboration still thrives in hybrid or remote workplaces, but it requires intention.
Key behaviors for remote managers
These managers started doing a few behaviors that we credit with their success:
Scheduled remote check-ins to replace the chance encounters in the office
Checked in with their teams on how hybrid is going, and adopted tools to support the new work environment
Pursued education about how to succeed in a remote workplace
If you’re struggling with remote work, try one of these behaviors! And if you’d like support with adapting to the hybrid world, reach out - we’d love to chat with you!
