Impressive facilitation at Startup Week Tacoma

In early November Emily and I were honored to be invited to present at Tacoma's inaugural Startup Week.

What’s Startup Week?

Startup Week is a free, community-driven event that connects resources, access, and opportunities for historically under-represented communities.

This year’s event offered workshops and panels focused on aspects of starting and growing a business. This included sessions on marketing, financial literacy, digital equity, mental health, inclusivity, and fundraising.

Why is facilitation important for startups?

Meetings can make or break your startup. Disorganized meetings with colleagues and investors can decrease engagement and damage your reputation. Well-facilitated meetings:

  • build interest and get results

  • strengthen the relationship of participants

  • make people feel excited for the work you are doing together

Class Overview

The one hour workshop was highly interactive and covered:

  • What facilitation is

  • Why facilitation matters

  • Signs a meeting is going poorly

  • Signs a meeting is going well

  • Nine key tips for the basics of great facilitation

  • Tips for online or hybrid meetings

The hour flew by!

Everyone was able to share one learning that they will take into their future work.
